Thinking of giving your dog meds for fireworks, thunderstorms, or travel anxiety? 🐾 The key is: always test the medication first in a calm setting before the real stress kicks in. That way, you’ll know how your pet reacts — whether they get relaxed, sleepy, or (in rare cases) show unexpected behavior.
💡 Remember:
• Do a trial run before the event.
• Watch how your pet responds.
• Talk to your vet about the safest options (like Trazodone or Gabapentin).
• Never wait until July 4th or a storm to find out how meds work.

Any advice on a 7 month old puppy we adopted that has car anxiety? I’ve been taking her for a ride at least once a day she drools continuously
I’ve been trying taking her to the dog park that seems to help . I need to travel 1200 miles in two days before Hagen back afterwards
I know dogs this has me stumped I really don’t want to medicate her if I can help it but she is so anxious I’ll probably need too
Dosage recommended for 50 pound 8 month old when we leave ?
Doc, ill take your advice on board while training my dog that has separation anxiety! I have tried everything and anything. But i think the drug is needed so we can even begin to train her. If we give her a bone, as soon as shes finished with it, she’ll attempt to destroy anything on her site, and if she doesnt have something, she will howl until we arrive home (neighbours loooove us)
How do you feel about clomipramine? We had three bad thunderstorms last week that caused my dog to become unhinged and it’s a week later and she’s still nervous about it. I’m thinking she needs an antidepressant and I think my vet wants to put her on clomipramine. What is your experience with that?
